Oral Appliance Therapy Candidate Steps

Breathe Better, Sleep Better, Feel Better

SCREENING

Do you have any symptoms?

Dentists trained in dental sleep medicine will aid in the screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. A number of screening questions followed by an assessment of the patient’s airway are needed.

You might also have an X-Ray or pictures taken of your mouth.

Ultimately, a sleep physician will diagnose any sleep breathing disorders such as OSA.

Providing us with your medical insurance information will allow our staff to pre-authorize your treatment.

DIAGNOSIS

Talking with your doctor

A sleep study will be conducted at home or in a sleep clinic. Results and recommendations will be discussed with your physician.
Candidates for Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) will be referred to WV Sleep Solutions to begin treatment.
WV Sleep Solutions does not provide OAT without a prescription from a physician.

MAKING/FITTING YOUR ORAL APPLLIANCE

Personalized for every patient

A thorough exam will be performed looking at the TMJ and its range of motion.
Muscles of the head and neck will be checked for any signs of tenderness. Impressions of the upper and lower teeth will be taken to make a custom

FDA approved appliance just for you. Your therapeutic range will be determined and recorded to achieve optimal results.

GETTING YOUR APPLIANCE IN THE RIGHT POSITION

Comfort is a top priority - Follow up

An open airway that improves oxygen, decreases snore sounds, while achieving a comfortable fit, is the goal.
Adjustments will be made to your customized FDA approved appliance by your dentist as needed. You might be asked to run a few tests while you sleep.
Your physician is kept updated on your treatment. We will evaluate your progress and refer you back to your physician for a follow-up sleep test.

FOLLOW UPS AND LIVING WITH YOUR ORAL APPLIANCE

Is it working/ease of use means ease of mind

WV Sleep Solutions will schedule ongoing assessments. Our goal is to make sure you’re comfortable and tolerating therapy. OAT is small, quiet, and comfortable.
Enjoy a happier and healthy life with therapy you are able to use every night.
We will see you every 6 months to check your oral appliance.
